Helping Today’s Youth Meet Life’s Challenges
The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) was established under the authority of the ROTC Vitalization Act of 1964. This act directed the Secretaries of each of the military services to establish and maintain JROTC units for their respective services with the primary goals to:
a. Promote Patriotism
b. Develop informed and responsible citizens
c. Promote habits of orderliness and precision
d. Develop a high degree of personal honor, self-reliance, individual discipline, and leadership
e. Promote community service
f. Promote high school completion, and
g. Promote continuing education
The program is NOT a military recruitment tool, and there is NO military service commitment for attending NJROTC classes.
The Navy JROTC Unit at Providence High School, Charlotte, NC, was established 1989. It is a cadet-led organization, meaning the students are responsible, under the supervision of experienced career Naval Science Instructors, for the day-to-day operation of the unit and all of its extra-curricular teams.
The unit boasts district champion Drill Teams, Color Guard, and Acadmic Team, as well as award winning Physical Fitness, Marksmanship and Orienteering Teams.
