The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) was established under the authority of

the Vitalization Act of 1964.  This act directed the Secretaries of each of the military services to establish and maintain

JROTC units for their respective services with the primary goals to:

a. Promote Patriotism

b. Develop informed and responsible citizens

c. Promote habits of orderliness and precision

d. Develop a high degree of personal honor, self-reliance, individual discipline, and leadership

e. Promote community service

f. Promote high school completion, and

g. Promote continuing education.


The program is NOT a military recruitment tool,

and there is NO military service commitment for attending NJROTC classes.

The Navy JROTC Unit at Providence High School,Charlotte, NC, was established 1989. It is a

cadet-led organization, meaning the students are responsible, under the supervision of experienced

career Naval Science Instructors, for the day-to-day operation of the unit and all of its extra-curricular teams.


The unit boasts nationally-ranked Drill Teams and Color Guard as well as

award winning Academic, Physical Fitness,Marksmanship and

Orienteering Teams.  It has also been awarded the highest possible award: UNIT OF DISTINCTION.
